NE OF THE EARLIEST annual activities of CFCP, dating to 1940 at the Glendale YWCA, the Convention held each spring has become a major unifying event bringing together members and interested friends from throughout the state. For many years, the Convention was held on Memorial Weekend, but for the past few years it has been held a few weeks earlier, in an effort to link it to National Poetry Month, which occurs in April.

The traditional two-and-a-half-day Convention offered a combination of lectures and workshops on various aspects of poetry, and features awards ceremonies for the winning poems in both the Junior-Senior Contest, open to students in grades 7 - 12 throughout California, and the "regular" Annual Contest, open to all adults. The Convention concluded with a banquet and the awarding of the Golden Pegasus trophy for the poem judged to have been the most outstanding entry in the contest.

The 2013 Convention was held Saturday, April 20, and at that time the Board chose to reduce future conventions by one day in order to make attendance more affordable.

The 2014 Convention will be held at the Wood Colony Hall, 3549 N. Dakota Avenue, Modesto, CA, beginning in the afternoon of Friday, April 25 and running through Saturday evening, April 26. It will feature as many of the events that you have come to expect as can be packed into a day and a half.
