The Orpheus/Apollo Chapter formed when the the older Apollo Chapter merged with its Orpheus offshoot in 2008. The chapters have met, singly or combined, in the Long Beach/ Lakewood/ Bellflower areas of Southern California since the early years of CFCP.

The chapter meets in the community room of Dana Branch Library, 3680 Atlantic Ave, Long Beach CA 90807 on the first Saturday of the month from 10 to 12:30, and the second Friday of each month between 1:00-3:30 pm.

The meetings provide a setting for reading of members' poems as well as favorite poems by past or living poets, sharing of information about community poetry events, challenging each other to continue writing, trying new forms and prompts. We also have a system for those who wish to have formal critique of a poem by other members.

The chapter plans to sponsor poetry contests for local elementary and secondary school children on an annual or semiannual basis. Visitors are always welcome whether poets themselves, lovers of poetry, or just curious about poetry. On a rotating basis, members may display their poetry in a case at the Los Angeles County branch library in Lakewood. Over the years, the group has published anthologies of members poems.
