The Arrowhead Chapter of CFCP was formed four decades ago as the San Bernardino Chapter. Past presidents of the Arrowhead Chapter include Bernice Coca, Holly Cress, Cynthia Fenn, Alfred Hawkins, Allen Kayrell, Richard Koch, Lilly McCue, Dr. Maud ONeil, who was also a State president, Marguerite Stanley, and June Starshine. One notable member was Vince Sterba, who was known as the State CFCP Troubadour because of his ability to spontaneously set authors poems to music, which he played on his guitar at State conventions. The name of the chapter was changed to Arrowhead in 2004 to honor that well-known landmark on the mountains behind San Bernardino. At one time the arrowhead was so clear that it showed for miles. Early Indians believed the Great Spirit put it there to show them the location of marvelous fresh and hot water springs in an arid area. Early in its history, Arrowhead Chapter CFCP met in members homes or in restaurants. By the 1970s it had made the San Bernardino City Library its home, and it still meets there, in the Feldheym main library, Soroptimist Room. Meetings are the first Saturday of each month, October through May at 1:30 p.m except that the December and June meetings are still held in a restaurant for food as well as fun and fellowship. After a short business meeting, a poetry read-around is held and a poem of the month is selected. This poem is displayed in two libraries for a month, and it is printed in the newsletter. Often a September meeting is also held to plan for the National Poetry Month October poetry hanging in the lobby of Feldheym Library. Other activities of the Arrowhead Chapter include an occasional student poetry contest, a monthly newsletter during meeting months, and a biennial anthology. Since the San Bernardino City Schools has discontinued its Writing Celebration, Arrowhead chapter of CFCP has not held as frequent childrens poetry contests. Occasionally one is sponsored. The Arrowhead chapter hosted the 2000 State Convention in San Bernardino under the leadership of Cindy Fenn. Arrowhead Chaparral members who have published chap books of poetry include Vinetta Bianchi, Alice Eby Hall, Eileen Sheila Hill, Lilly McCue, Dr. Maud ONeill, and Marguerite Stanley.
